DIY fan gives his bathroom a stunning makeover by following YouTube tutorials

A savvy DIY enthusiast has given his old-fashioned blue bathroom a gorgeous hotel-style makeover.

Tom Keenan, 32, a mechanical engineer, posted some before-and-after snaps to Facebook.

In them, he demonstrated how he knocked out his old tiles and created a gorgeous, modern new look.

Social media users were blown away by the high end results, and we have to say we were too.

It took Tom three months to complete his project as he worked on it over the weekend during lockdown.

Have you ever completed a DIY project you're proud of? We want to hear about it in our comments section…

Speaking to Daily Star Online, Tom said: “It went on hold from March to July due to work commitments during the lockdown period.

“Then I finally finished in August once my work schedule went back to something like normal.”

Captioning his snaps, Tom added: “Not too shabby for a DIY jobbie!”

We especially love the new shower glass, which has stylish black framing – Victorian Plumbing sells a close match for £309.

Tom told us: “The bathroom was completely gutted, re-plumbed and re-wired with only YouTube as guidance.

“It was my first time doing a bathroom!"

He continued: "I managed that on the first weekend as it was the only bathroom in the house so had to stay fully functional!

“We mix and matched the entire bathroom from over ten different vendors to get exactly what we wanted.”

Tom used on-trend white metro tiles – similar ones can be bought for around £4.49 each from Tiles Direct.

Plus, a circular mirror with a statement black frame. You can snag a lookalike from Better Bathrooms for £69.97.

All in, Tom’s refurb cost £2,000 in total.

But, that’s a pretty good deal for a whole new suite, fitting, tiling and accessories.

Tom has some advice for anyone trying to fulfil a similar project.

He said: “If I had to give advice for anyone looking at attempting something similar is expect every surprise out there when it comes to plumbing and electrics underneath from the 1980's.

“Also learn the name of your favourite Screwfix clerk as they will become a new best friend.”

People were impressed by Tom's work – 1,600 people liked his post.

"This is the best bathroom by far – absolutely love this, its amazing," said one woman.

Another wrote: "That’s absolutely stunning!"

We agree – beautiful work Tom.
