How Caffeine Can Help Manage Adult Adhd Symptoms
Caffeine affects different chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the brain in different ways – increasing the levels of some and blocking the activity of others.
Over time, adenosine binds to many of its various receptors, reducing the rate of dopamine production and ultimately promoting sleep and reducing wakefulness.
Caffeine’s molecular structure is similar to adenosine, so it matches adenosine receptors. When caffeine binds to adenosine receptors, adenosine is blocked from performing its actions.
This explains why caffeine can increase focus, attention and energy in a short period of time. Another part of the equation? Dopamine.
Ways To Recover From Being Overcaffeinated
When adenosine is blocked from binding to receptors, the “sleep signal” is reduced, causing dopamine to be released more quickly.
