Samsung Unveils Galaxy SmartTag So You'll Never Lose Things Around the House

Samsung has just unveiled a new device that lets you track down things you lose or misplace. Dubbed “Galaxy SmartTag,” the device is a small BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) dongle that can be hooked on to a set of keys, a luggage handle, a pet collar, and other objects.

To use the Galaxy SmartTag, pair it with your Galaxy smartphone through Samsung’s SmartThings app. This will pull up its last known location on a map while displaying a proximity indicator. Depending on how close you are to the SmartTag, you can tap a button to make it chime. It’s a useful feature for those who tend to misplace things around the house. There is, however, a couple of catches: the device is only compatible with Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets and it has a maximum range of 120 meters. But beyond its tracking capabilities, the device can also be used as a one-touch IoT control, which allows users to switch on or off various Samsung appliances at home, like robot vacuums and TVs.

The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag will be available on January 29 on Samsung’s website for $30 USD.
