Michelle Keegan’s hotly anticipated new BBC drama, Ten Pound Poms, starts this month, and to celebrate, the star shared a handful of behind-the-scenes photos from her time on set.
Last year, 35-year-old Michelle spent weeks filming the show, set in post-war Britain, in Australia and on May 14 we’ll finally be able to wrap our eyeballs around the first episode.
Michelle plays a young nurse named Kate in Ten Pound Poms, which follows a group of Brits who leave their homeland in 1956 to start a new life in Australia.
Taking to Instagram on Sunday, former Corrie actress Michelle posted a snap of herself in costume alongside a handful of other epic pictures captured on set.
She captioned her post: ‘1 week to go before Ten Pound Poms takes you back to 1956.’
Also starring Faye Marsay and Warren Brown, the characters in Ten Pound Poms are promised new homes, jobs, and a better quality of life for just a tenner if they move Down Under, however soon start to struggle with their new lives in Australia.
The six-part series is created by Bafta-winner Danny Brocklehurst, who also worked on Brassic with Michelle, who has been busy promoting new projects lately.
She recently gave fans their first look at her lead role in Netflix thriller Fool Me Once.
In the show, her character Maya Stern’s mother-in-law Judith is played by Dame Joanna Lumley and Michelle is pretty excited to be working alongside the Absolutely Fabulous icon in the eight-part series.
While their on-screen relationship is ‘very strained’, things were different on set.
While chatting at a Netflix event attended by Metro.co.uk that was celebrating the upcoming 2023 content she said: ‘I still can’t believe it.’
Michelle offered an insight into what Joanna is like in real life for those of us who haven’t yet had the honour of meeting the icon.
‘She’s hilarious. She has all the crew laughing all the time. She is so professional and lovely to be around.’
We wouldn’t expect anything less.
‘I just gravitated towards her straight away. She makes you feel really comfortable. She’s a legend.’
In the show, Maya’s husband Joe, played by Richard Armitage, is brutally murdered in front of her.
However, everything is not as it seems as one day she spots her ‘dead husband’ on the nanny camera.
We follow Maya as she tries to figure out what the heck is going on.
The plot is based on Harlan Coben’s best-selling novel of the same name, and set in Manchester so Essex-based Michelle got to spend time in her hometown.
