Move over, GOOP! Another celebrity has plans to market the feminine divine — Erykah Badu is creating vagina-scented incense to sell in her new online store. Aptly dubbed “Badu’s Pussy,” Badu presumably plans to release the collection this year following the Feb. 20 launch of her Badu World Market. And because she wants it to be as authentic as possible (“the people deserve it!”), she’s even using something rather intimate to convey her essence: old panties.
You have questions; we know. So do we. Here’s what we know: Badu got crafty in the process of creating the incense. You might even say they’re, like, sustainable. You see, she stopped wearing underwear some time ago, which freed up the contents of her panty drawer to serve a higher purpose. “I took lots of pairs of my panties, cut them up into little pieces and burned them. Even the ash is part of it,” she told 10 Magazine in an interview published Wednesday. When asked if the process felt incredibly personal, she exclaimed, “Yeah, man! The people deserve it!”
So, why her vagina? Well, she feels it has a lot to offer the world. “There’s an urban legend that my pussy changes men,” she explained, adding, “The men that I fall in love with, and fall in love with me, change jobs and lives.”

BEST FOOT FORWARD: “There’s an urban legend that my pussy changes men,” @erykahbadu tells @owenmyers in the cover interview for our new Issue 64. “The men that I fall in love with, and fall in love with me, change jobs and lives." It’s no wonder than that, as part of her latest business venture – Badu World Market – this creative polymath has developed a fragrance scented after her own vagina by burning her old panties. The second of four covers of our new issue is a true feast for the eyes, celebrating 20 years of 10 in all its glory, as Erykah Badu wears a floral fantasy courtesy of Richard Quinn and proves (yet again) why she is the style icon known around the world. Follow the LINK IN BIO to read the full interview and discover more images from inside the mag, styled by Anna Trevelyan and photographed by Shaniqwa Jarvis in Badu’s personal haven of Dallas, Texas. Issue 64 is officially OUT from February 6th and, as you can see, we're not taking the term "celebratory issue" lightly. #20in2020 #BestFootForward #ErykahBadu #AnnaTrevelyan #ShaniqwaJarvis #RichardQuinn #10Magazine
I mean, the confidence. If burning Badu’s incense makes you feel such a stalwart sense of self-worth about your feminine mystique, maybe count me in.
Badu’s unconventional new product continues what seems to be an emerging trend: vagina-scented home décor. Back in 2017, RuPaul released a candle called “This Smells Like My Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve & Talent.” And unless you’ve been living under a rock (or gigantic jade egg, as it were), you probably saw that Gwyneth Paltrow added Heretic’s “This Smells Like My Vagina” candle to GOOP’s shop in December 2019. It sold out quickly.
But unlike GOOP’s candle — which contains “a blend of geranium, citrusy bergamot, and cedar absolutes juxtaposed with Damask rose and ambrette seed” — Badu promises her incense will smell just as the name advertises. How does one even create such a formula? Something tells us if anyone can pull off such nether-sorcery, it’s Badu.
