Whoa: Fans Are Attacking Miley Cyrus for Her Post Saying “Virginity Is a Social Construct”

It feels like forever since Miley Cyrus blessed us with those extremely NSFW ASMR videos of her eating fruit to promote her She Is Coming EP, but it looks like she’s back at spamming us (a welcome thing, might I add) with promo material for her “Mother’s Daughter” music video, which came out July 2. But unlike her previous posts, these are getting a TON of hate for the messages she’s trying to share—especially the one about virginity being a social construct.

A few days ago, Miley posted a photo with the words “tough titties” and implored anyone looking at her post not to “f*ck with OUR freedom,” similar to what she sings in the song. That one got some blowback with people claiming that nobody is messing with her freedom and that her rights should take a back seat to what is going on in the world. But it was her recent post that got the most hate.

Yesterday, she shared stills from the video that said “Virginity is a social construct,” and her comments section has never looked as messy as it does right now.

Some trolls joked that Miley and her fans don’t really know what it means but like it because it’s a provocative statement, while others claimed that she’s being a bad role model. One wrote, “Miley, you are too smart for putting out something as dumb. You have a responsibility toward the youth of today, for god’s sake.”

One woman even argued that Miley was basically shaming people for being virgins. She wrote:

Many others added that virginity is actually ~a thing~ but that people should be able to do whatever they want with their bodies and not be judged.

Well, then! Pro tip: It’s your body and your choice, and if you don’t want your brain to explode from pure mental exhaustion, don’t scroll though Miley’s comments right now. It’s wild in there!
