Desert Island Discs: Tom Daley reveals luxury item
Tom Daley, who is best known for his sporting skills on the diving board, has added another string to his bow as the Olympic champion revealed his latest hobby. The 26-year-old athlete revealed he has taken up knitting much to the encouragement of his husband Dustin Lance Black, 46.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4 today, Tom spoke candidly about his new “obsession” as he even tried his hand at creating personalised swimming trunks.
The diving champion has also gifted his partner one of his various knitting creations.
BBC host Martha Kearney asked: “Tom Daley, where did it start for you? You’ve got an Instagram account called Made With Love which is a second Instagram feed.
“It’s got some amazing stuff that you have crotched and knitted on there.”

Tom replied: “Yes, it actually started pre-lockdown back in March.
“Because I’m someone that always likes to be on the go. I really struggle to just sit down and relax.
“One of the things that my coach has been trying to get me to do for a very long time is to sit down when I’m not training to be able to recover.”
The Olympian explained that his other half thought it would be a good idea for him to begin crafting.
“My husband he has seen people on-set – because he works in film – knitting squares and things like that,” Tom explained.
“He said, ‘Why don’t you try that to be able to give yourself a chance to unwind in the evening?’
“So I started it before lockdown and then I threw myself headfirst into it.”
The father-of-one explained that he later went on to crochet different designs.

“I spent the first six months of lockdown knitting and in the summer I decided to learn how to crochet.
“To be honest I’ve become obsessed ever since.”
Michelle mused: “We must talk about the woollen swimming trunks, Tom?”
Her comments come after the Olympian took to Instagram and shared the end result of swimming trunks he had created.
Tom said: “Literally I’ve tried to make every single thing you can imagine.
“Funnily enough there are not many male swimming trunk patterns online. I had to try and adjust a bikini bottom so that was interesting.”
Bake Off judge Prue Leith interjected: “Tom, I can’t imagine if you did one of your high dives in that, it would be around your ankles or floating in the pool I’m sure.”
“I haven’t quite tested it out on the top board and I don’t think I will,” Tom chuckled.
Meanwhile, the diver has since shared snaps of his partner sporting a jumper he had knitted for him on Instagram.
In view of his 39,000 followers, Tom penned: “BOYS ARE BACK SWEATER!
“I knitted this jumper for @dlanceblack and it was an awesome kit from @woolandthegang and I made some videos of the process. Should I do a reel?”
