Eamonn Holmes, 61, made jibes about his wife Ruth Langsford’s appearance, which sparked criticism on social media. The veteran presenter compared his other half to Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge.

Ruth, 61, has now admitted she doesn’t think she’s ever been “body confident” and added her husband always tells her that she is beautiful.

The ITV presenter explained that she is aware Eamonn often makes light-hearted jokes.

The Loose Women host addressed cheeky remarks her other half has previously made in a new interview.

Ruth said: “He would never do that if I didn’t know he was joking, that would be horrendous.”

She continued to Woman Magazine: “He’s always told me that I’m gorgeous and beautiful.

“He’ll say, ‘You look great in those jeans.’ That’s why he’s able to crack those jokes.”

Ruth’s comments come after Eamonn sparked an uproar earlier this year when he was accused of “body shaming” his wife.

During a segment on This Morning, the presenter made a remark about the Duchess of Cambridge.

The duo played It’s Behind You which sees a viewer call in and describe what is behind the hosts as they try to guess the answer.

An image of Kate appeared on screen and the caller said: “She’s very thin,” and, “She’s married to…” before running out of time.

Eamonn turned to Ruth and commented: “She’s very thin, well it’s not you darling.”

The presenter also explained that she has now “accepted” her shape after her boobs grew during menopause.

“The menopause has changed my shape; my boobs are bigger, I’m generally just bigger, but it hasn’t ruined my life,” she added to the same publication.

Meanwhile, it comes after the couple confirmed that they will be spending Christmas apart this December.

The ITV couple have opened up about the heartbreaking reason behind their decision, but insisted that it’s “not a problem”.

Eamonn and Ruth explained that they will spend December 25 separately with a “sea dividing us”.

The couple both have elderly mums they want to spend Christmas with.

Ruth’s 93-year-old mum Joan resides in Surrey, and Eamonn’s mother Josephine is in his native Belfast, meaning they can’t visit both on Christmas Day together.

The couple have been together for over two decades and married for 11 years. They share 19-year-old son Jack.

Eamonn shares his three eldest children Declan, 32, Rebecca, 30, and Niall, 28, with his ex-wife Gabrielle.
