Troubled rapper R. Kelly has been hit with fresh charges of prostitution involving a girl under 18 in Minnesota.
Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said Kelly was charged with two counts of prostitution and solicitation involving a minor in 2001.
Freeman said at a press conference Monday that the charges stem from an alleged incident that took place on July 11, 2001 in Minneapolis following one of Kelly’s promotional appearances.
Kelly allegedly lured his female fan, then 17, who approached him for his autograph to a hotel he was staying and had sex with her.
Kelly is mired in multiple legal battles in Illinois and New York after several women raised sexual abuse allegations against him. He is already in federal custody.
Forbidden from making contact with females younger than 18, the singer is awaiting trial on several sexual abuse charges, some of which have been ongoing for more than a decade.
