Normal People star Paul Mescal shares sweet birthday tribute to ‘one of a kind’ co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones

Normal People's Paul Mescal marked his co-star Daisy Edgar-Jones’ birthday with a sweet tribute.

Since Normal People aired on BBC Three, Daisy Edgar-Jones, who plays Marianne Sheridan, and Paul Mescal, 24, who plays Connell Waldron, have shot to to stardom.

Paul has also become a heartthrob following his emotional portrayal of Connell in the book adaption of Sally Rooney’s hit novel set in Ireland, which follows the relationship between Connell and Marianne.

As Daisy turned 22, Paul shared some behind-the-scenes snaps from the show, as he praised her as “one of a kind”.

Alongside the photos, Paul wrote: “Happy birthday to this LEGEND! @daisyedgarjones you are one of a kind. Have the best day ever.” [sic]

Paul posted several black-and-white snaps, including one of Daisy sitting on a doorstep laughing.

In another shot, the actress can be seen sitting in a makeup chair as she prepares to film a scene as Marianne.

Other snaps show the pair laughing in between takes of a serious scene, while another showed them talking about the show at a press conference.

Daisy thanked her co-star for the sweet tribute as she commented: “THANK YOU PAULIO”. [sic]

Normal People fans loved Paul’s tribute to Daisy, with many expressing their wish that they were a real life couple.

One person wrote: “Literally the only on screen couple I’ve ever wanted to be together off screen! My obsession with normal people is very unhealthy.”

Another said: “It’s not healthy how much I want them to be together.”

And others wrote: “Can you guys just marry each other now please? I want it to be real” and: “Can they just be marianne and Connell in real life please.” [sic]

Unfortunately for fans, Daisy is very much loved-up with her boyfriend Tom Varey, 29, while Paul is also on the lookout for love.

Paul has revealed he plans on dating when lockdown is over as he spoke on podcast, I’m Grand Mam, saying: “I'm really looking forward to dating.

“I'm trying not to think of it being weird because I think, we've been in lockdown for f**king months and I've had no opportunity to meet somebody new or being remotely intimate with anybody.”

Paul added: “I’m at the point now where I want to get married and settle down, you know that hysterical thing?

“If lockdown ever happens again I'm making sure that I'm married. But yeah, I am looking forward to dating.”

Paul, who now lives in London, revealed he had been using dating app Hinge just the week before Normal People was released, but later quit the app because he “didn’t like it”.

But, if you do happen to land a date with heartthrob Paul – perhaps on Bumble – don’t expect to be swept off your feet like Marianne, as Paul said he’s nothing like his character Connell.

“I'm not Connell, I'm totally different to him," he admitted.

Obsessed with Normal People? Here's how you can recreate Marianne's most iconic looks…

“Maybe what's sexy about Connell is he's that kind of classic back footed, aloof, smart… I'm definitely not back footed or aloof.

“It was kind of fun at the start, I was like: ‘Oh, this is mad, people think that Connell's sexy.’

“A weird thing has crept in where people DM and there's a feeling that maybe there's an anticipation that I'm him.

“This is for the record: if anyone ever dates me, I am not Connell and nor do I want to be him.”
