Nigella Lawson was inundated with support as the TV chef made a candid admission today. It comes as families across the UK celebrate Father’s Day with their loved ones and the culinary star said it is a difficult time for her own family.

The 61-year-old took to Twitter and opened up about her family tragedy following the death of her first husband John Diamond.

Nigella and her late partner tied the knot in 1992 and they later welcomed daughter Cosima and son Bruno.

John was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1997 and died around three years later in 2001.

Taking to the micro-blogging site, Nigella offered an emotional message as she shared her “heartache”.

In view of her 2.7 million followers, she penned: “As the mother of children who have had to grow up without a father, I’m aware that #fathersday is not always a happy day.

“If today is a cause for celebration, I wish you much joy. If, for whatever reason, it’s a cause of heartache, I send much love.”

Fans flocked to comment on the post, as many offered their condolences to the small-screen star.

One wrote: “Thank you Nigella for these kind words, it is indeed a hard day for many.”

Nigella replied: “Much love to you.”

Another commented: “My first Father’s Day without my dad. Lost him to lymphoma and dementia in April but at least he lived into old age. Thank you for acknowledging how painful it can be. Warm hugs to you and your children.”

“And to you,” Nigella responded.

A third wrote: “It must be so difficult for your children, who must miss their father so much. He was such a wonderful man. You must miss him too.”

“Lovely sentiment,” a fourth added.

Nigella previously credited John for transforming her career from a food writer to a TV Cook.

In 2018, when celebrating the 20th anniversary of her first book How To Eat, she paid tribute to John.

She tweeted: “This time 20 years ago, I was at the launch party for my first book, How To Eat.

“Looking at this photo makes me happy, but also very sad. I wish I could be in John’s arms now.

She continued: “I’ve chosen this in particular as it was a real favourite of my husband John’s.

“How To Eat would never have existed without his urging and encouragement in the first place.”

Nigella married her second husband Charles Saatchi in 2003 but after a decade together the couple split.
