The Hollywood actress, 51, has shared that her daughter Carys, 18, has hopes to follow in her famous parents’ footsteps. However, dad Michael has revealed that she would not be known for her acting credibility.
Michael has said to them what it is like to be, ‘the daughter of’ in the same industry
Catherine, who shares Carys and son Dylan, 20, with fellow Oscar-winning actor Michael, 76, has hinted that their off-spring may be inclined to turn their backs on an academic career.
However, due to their mother and father’s high profile in the acting industry, they may not gain their own identity for some time.
Currently, their daughter Carys is excelling in subjects such as history and politics during her studies but has hinted to her mum that she has a passion to be in front of the camera.
But their dad has told their children that things would not be as simple for them, due to the status of their parents.
Speaking of her two children, Catherine said: “Their love of the craft of acting is so strong that even when Michael… their brains they are doing politics and history in school, but their passion is acting.”
The Swansea-born actress went on: “And they’ve never done anything professional, but they would like to go into acting.”
Catherine admitted that Michael, whose father was Kirk Douglas, has sat down with their brood to offer some invaluable advice on trying to crack the Hollywood industry.
She told The Drew Barrymore Show: “But my kids, Michael has said to them what it is like to be, ‘the daughter of’ in the same industry, which I guess is similar if you are in business.”
Catherine was faced with attending auditions as she started to sign for jobs early on in her career, admitting that she would “line up again” if she had been rejected for a role.
She went on to say: “If you are successful in business, your kids have, it’s not an easy way in, in fact, one has to prove oneself more, so even with that deterrent my kids are like, ‘No, sorry we still want to do it.’
“And I’ve had a wonderful life being an actor and if they get half the joy that I’ve had, all I want is my kids to be happy and healthy, everything else is a bonus right.”
Despite her parents’ impressive careers, Carys will soon be heading to college to further her education, with Catherine and Michael becoming “empty nesters”.

However, she is keen to shy away from the “cold” phrase and is embracing that her children are off to school.
Speaking frankly about her life as a parent, Catherine told Drew: “I see what both Michael and I have done and I’m not bragging, you never know as a parent what you are going to get.
“The best-laid plans, whatever, it’s just two people come together and there is a creation and then you guide them, I had a mother who, who was wonderful.
“With my children I tried to instil those qualities the best I could and both Michael and I the best, best joy is when we get complimented about our kid’s behaviour and their manners and how they are just good two grounded kids.”
The Zeta-Douglas household are currently mourning the loss of Michael’s step-mother, Anne, who passed away last week aged 102.
Speaking of the passing of Anne, Michael said: “Anne was more than a stepmother, and never ‘wicked’. She brought out the best in all of us, especially our father.
“Dad would never have had the career he did without Anne’s support and partnership. Catherine and I and the children adored her; she will always be in our hearts.”
Just one year prior to Anne’s death, Michael’s father Kirk passed away aged 102.
