Kerry Katona has slammed animal rights group PETA for reportedly telling Coronation Street to turn the Rovers Return pub into a meat-free establishment.

Speaking about the rumours, former Atomic Kitten star Kerry took offence to the idea that the long-running soap should bow to pressure to turn its much-loved pub vegan.

Speaking exclusively to new magazine, the mum-of-five said: “They do know it’s a soap and isn’t real, right? I don’t think they’re going to write in the script, ‘Can I have a vegan sausage roll, please?’

“I don’t think that’s a storyline people are looking for and it isn’t exactly going to send ratings through the roof.”

Kerry, who is mum to Molly, 18, Lilly-Sue, 17, Heidi, 13, Maxwell, 12, and Dylan-Jorge, five, went on to explain that she watches Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain every day and believes it’s something that Piers, along with co presenter Susanna Reid, would debate on the breakfast show.

Kerry added, “I watch Piers Morgan every day on Good Morning Britain and he’s always debating about stuff like this.

"The other day they were debating whether they should change ‘fisherman’ to ‘fishperson.’ I’m like, ‘Why?’ Do we have to start calling it Womanchester instead of Manchester as well? I think sometimes it can go too far.”

It’s not the first time Kerry, who turned 40 in September, has praised Piers Morgan. Recently, the singer said she believed the talk show host was much better than This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield.

It’s a busy time for the mum, as she recently revealed in her new magazine column that she has embarked on a new career path.

“If I were to do something different, I’d be a life coach. I’d really like to help others and do seminars. I’m actually aiming to do that anyway, as I’m currently training to be one.”
