Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have urged the American public to stand up for their right to vote in a shocking campaign video.

The clip, which was released on 17 June, begins by telling viewers it's the year 2055 before changing the scene to the couple appearing to be trapped in a bunker in a post-apocalyptic world where "democracy is dead".

The pair, who are currently enjoying a romantic trip in Venice with their daughter Daisy Dove, are seen flicking switches on a control panel before standing in front of a camera to record a message to the present-day public.

"Let's hope this works," Orlando, 44, says to his other half, to which she replies: "We've gotta tell 'em."

RepresentUS, a political organisation, shared the ad featuring the high profile couple in support of the For The People Act – which intends to expand voting rights and has a bill that is set to be presented to the American Senate later this month.

Both Orlando and Katy appear to be in their 70s in the short video as they sport grey long hair and look haggard.

Wrapping an arm around the Roar hitmaker, an elderly Orlando says: "You are our only hope. The America you know doesn’t exist in our future. Democracy is dead. We have no voice, the regime watches our every move."

Katy then cuts in and says: “It started when voter suppression ran wild all over America. The voting rights bills died in the Senate. Polling places closed. We lost our right to vote."

"This future doesn't have to be. You have the power to change it. Save democracy while you can," Orlando continues as members of the future government supposedly find the pair's hideout.

Katy, who recently sparked rumours she secretly married Orlando as she flashed a "wedding ring", then adds: "Call your senator now," before running off while Orlando says: "Tell Daisy we love her".

The couple announced the birth of their first child together back in August 2020 through children's charity UNICEF.
