Kate Middleton shows sweet maternal side as she coos with baby in joint engagement

Kate Middleton showed off her maternal side as she attended an engagement with her husband Prince William at St John's Primary School in Port Glasgow.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were taking part in a Roots of Empathy session with the older children, while one of the teachers Laura Molloy also brought along her baby son Saul, 10 months.

The 40 year old mum-of-three was all-smiles as she held and cuddled the little one, even reading a book with the tot.

The Duchess cooed and chatted along as she read That's Not My Dinosaur in the adorable snaps.

Kate opted for a stunning blue blouse and dark navy pleated trousers for the engagement, pairing the blue tones with a matching ankle-skimming jacket.

The Duchess finished off her ensemble with a black buckled belt and suede heels.

With her brunette locks loose and wavy around her shoulders, the Royal accessorised with a pair of drop pearl earrings as she spoke to the teachers and chatted with children.

Baby Saul was dressed in a fluffy white jumper and matching trousers.

The Duke meanwhile, enjoyed laughing and playing with the older children as they all learnt how to take part in the session.

The cause of early childhood years is incredibly important to Kate, who recently became the new patron of the Maternal Mental Health Alliance (MMHA) in an announcement made during Mental Health Awareness Week.

During a poignant speech, the Duchess said that no mum is "immune" to depression and anxiety when it came to childbirth and raising children.

The Duchess of Cambridge brought awareness to the struggles that new mums can face as she discussed the difficulties different families endure.

Sharing children Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, four, with her husband, Kate is passionate about childcare and helping families all around the UK to get the best start.

She also said that no parent should face the difficulties of facing childbirth and raising children “alone”, and spoke about how Maternal Mental Health Alliance week is about the "power and importance of connection”.

"The past couple of years have reminded us just how much we need each other, and how vital our relationships are to our longterm health and happiness.

"This starts in the earliest years of our lives, when we need close and continuous care from the people around us, to nurture our development, and ensure that we get the right start in life," she said, going on to add how "proud" she was to become the patron of such an important organisation.
