Clio Music has announced that Joan Jett and Sheryl Crow will be among the artists honored at the 60th annual Clio Music Awards, scheduled to take place on September 25 in New York City.
Crow will be honored with the Clio Music Impact Award, for the significant impact she made on the industry with her originality and bringing about social change.
Crow recently joined Citi’s #SeeHerHearHer initiative to advocate for gender equality in the music industry. She is also actively involved in several organizations, including the Natural Resource Defense Council, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the American Red Cross, the World Food Program and Sandy Hook Promise.
Jett will be conferred the 2019 Clio Music Lifetime Achievement Award.
“I recently came across the documentary about Joan Jett’s life and career and was blown away by her creative impact,” said Nicole Purcell, Clio’s President. “She is a woman who blazed her own trail in so many aspects of her life, whether it be popularizing a new sound or creating opportunities for herself where none existed.”
She added, “For me, her most impactful achievement is in the way that she has given back to the next generation of women in rock ‘n’ roll and used her stardom as a platform to champion women’s, LGBTQ and animal rights.”
The awards function, sponsored by Citi, will also feature an acoustic performance by Jett.
