Frances Tophill first joined Gardeners’ World in 2016 and has since become known for her tips and tricks around the garden. The BBC star didn’t disappoint after the gardening expert shared a cheeky new move.

Taking to Instagram, Frances explained that she had run out of space to hang out her washing.

So the presenter decided to utilise her garden space and shared a photo of her clothing hung up along her vegetable patch.

In view of her 4,270 followers, Frances penned: “My washing is just going to have to share the washing line with the cucumber.

“That seems to be the only place it’s happy and prolific! Sorry washing.”

She completed the post with the hashtags: “#growyourown #growyourownathome #thethingswedoforplants #cucumber #plants #urbanjungle #thinkingoutsidethebox.”

In one snap, it showed her clothing line with leaves growing over her washing.

The second photo showed her cucumber plant had grown significantly larger.

Fans inundated the BBC presenter with comments, as one person said: “Great idea growing along a line and letting fruits hang down.”

Another person commented: “Yeah, clothes take second place after cucumbers.”

While a third quizzed: “Is this a cucumber that’s specifically for outdoor growing Frances?”

She has previously spoken of how she found her passion for gardening “quite late”.

“I came to gardening quite late,” the Gardeners’ World host explained.

“Having had two failed attempts at the ages of six and seven when I tried to ‘help’ my mum and got in trouble.”

She continued: “I never even thought about it again until I saw the job for an apprentice gardener at the age of 19, applied, turned up for the interview, had a walk around the garden and immediately knew it was what I wanted to do.”

Frances admitted to the Daily Mail that her passion for the outdoors has stayed with her.

She explained: “I luckily got the job and haven’t looked back since.”

The presenter has also spoken of how she got her gardening apprenticeship, saying she laughed off the idea after her mother suggested it.

Frances said: “I remember lying in bed with the rain pouring down outside and thinking, ‘I want to go out in this.’

“I like being out in all weathers. It occurred to me that maybe the gardening thing wouldn’t be so mad after all. So I applied and got the job.

“The moment I saw the garden, I just fell in love with it. Straightaway I knew I’d found something I loved.”

Before joining Gardeners’ World, Frances was seen alongside Alan Titchmarsh on Love Your Garden.

Gardeners’ Worlairs tonight on BBC Two at 8pm.
