Ed Sheeran proposed to his now wife Cherry back in 2018, thee years after the couple started their relationship following a long friendship.
The childhood sweethearts are secondary school classmates, and welcomed their first child last September, a baby girl they called Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.
Ed Sheeran has now opened up on the moment he proposed to his wife, and her hysterical reaction to his sweet gesture.
The 30 year old singer, who has sold more than 150 million records worldwide, shared his engagement story on Swedish chat show Skavlan.
Ed said: "I have never told this story actually. I was getting down one one knee and I said ‘Will you marry me?’ and she was like ‘Are you f**king joking?"
"There was this long silence and I just went ‘Please?’ It's the most human I have ever felt because it was like in my career sometimes you find it is like ‘Can I do this?’ and people are like ‘Yeah’.
"You kind of get to a sort of point where it becomes normal and then you are in a situation where you are literally on your knees being like 'Will you marry me?' It is such a huge life decision someone has to make in the blink of an eye. Thankfully she did say ‘Yes'."
Explaining Cherry's reaction, Ed continued: "Well, Cherry’s parents never married, but they were together for 30 years. They have now married by the way. So, she hasn’t grown up thinking that marriage is important.
"But I come from that sort of thing, and my parents are married and their parents were married blah blah blah. So I was walking into it not knowing if she was going to say yes. There was not the confidence of like ‘Hey oh my God yes,’ So I did it."
"Do you know what, the worst thing about it was that I put the f**king date on the ring," he continued. "And on the day, it was pissing down with rain and I’d built a f**king pergola at the end of the garden to do it.
"Sunset, pergola, some wine. And it was pissing down with rain, and I kept saying to her that we should go for a walk, and she was like 'No!' I was like 'Are you sure you don't want to go for a walk?' and time was ticking, there was a date on the ring and I was like 'I’ve got to do it today!'.
"It gets to like 9pm and I was like "For f**k's sake?’. This is the first time I have told this story."
