Before he became a father figure on Riverdale, Luke Perry was winning the hearts of ’90s teens in the hit drama series Beverly Hills, 90210. During a conversation on the 90210MG podcast, Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth interviewed Carol Potter, who shared the scandalous thing Perry would do on the 90210 set back in the day.
Luke Perry became an icon after ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’
Before Perry was known for his role as Dylan McKay, the dangerous loner in the 90210 drama, he acted in soap operas like Loving and Another World. Thanks to Beverly Hills‘ success, Perry went on to become a teen idol, appearing in Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer and other films like Terminal Bliss and 8 Seconds.
Later, Perry would star in television series like Oz and Jeremiah. Perry also garnered the attention of a new generation of fans when he played Archie Andrews’ (K.J. Apa) dad, Fred, in the CW series Riverdale.
Sadly, Perry died on Mar. 4, 2019. He suffered a massive stroke on Feb. 27, 2019. Then, a second stroke led his family to decide to take him off of life support.
Perry is sorely missed by his family, friends, and co-stars — past and present.
‘90210’ got a resurgence in 2019 without Luke Perry
Many Beverly Hills, 90210 fans were ecstatic to learn that FOX was rebooting the series. The announcement came in February 2019.
“Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Ian Ziering, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Tori Spelling — the original stars of Beverly Hills, 90210, the groundbreaking teen drama that defined Southern California life, are set to return in a six-episode event series, 90210,” the release began.
At the time, Perry was unable to join in the fun of the reboot due to contractual obligations for Riverdale.
Still, the network promised fans 90210 would come with a “big twist,” in the form of Priestley, Garth, Ziering, Carteris, Green, and Spelling playing “heightened versions of themselves.” Events used in the reboot were inspired by the lives and relationships of the cast.
For many 90210 fans, six episodes weren’t enough. Fortunately, fans can continue reliving all of their favorite memories from the show on Garth and Spelling’s 90210MG podcast.
Luke Perry suggested Dylan McKay and Cindy Walsh ‘have an affair’ on ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’
In a recent episode, the duo had Potter, better known as Cindy Walsh, as a guest on the podcast. During the Jan. 4 episode “How Sexy is Mrs. Walsh??!!!” Potter discussed having a crush on some of the show’s cast.
“I had the worst crush on Luke,” she said. “We used to joke about it all the time.” Potter, Garth, and Spelling also spilled the tea on the things Perry would do behind the scenes.
“He would flirt with you,” Garth added. “I remember that.”
“Remember how he’d go up and just hold you?” Spelling recalled. “Like nuzzle you and get right in your face?” The three reminisced about how flirty Perry was with Potter, putting his hands on her waist and whispering sweet-nothings to her while they were on set.
Then, Potter revealed something major: “We’d talk dirty to each other,” she laughed.
Spelling and Garth begged for one thing Perry would say to Potter that wasn’t “too dirty.”
“I dont’ know if I can remember anything in particular,” Potter admitted, adding: “Except he [would say] ‘Oh, Mrs. Walsh, we should have an affair,’ you know [in that] that gravely, lovely voice.”
Ironically, Perry wasn’t the only person hitting on Potter at the time. Grant Show, of Melrose Place fame, suggested the same thing to Potter — “you should be having the younger man/older woman affair.”
