Amelia Hamlin is reflecting on her struggles with anorexia in a new essay with Glamour magazine.
In the piece, the 18-year-old model confessed that if she hadn’t opened up about her eating disorder, she probably would’ve relapsed.
“I have eyes on me 24/7,” she shared. “After sharing my story, they weren’t just anonymous eyes but eyes that knew this intimate detail about my life, that were watching me and my body every single day. When you’re in recovery from an eating disorder, it’s so difficult to continue pushing through even when you have bad days where you just want to go back your old habits.”
Amelia also shared that she chose to reveal her disorder so her younger followers wouldn’t see and think of the changes in her body as normal.
“All these young girls were following me and commenting on my posts, and I realized I didn’t want them to be following a lie,” Amelia wrote. “I couldn’t allow little girls, or little boys, or whoever, to look at the changes in my body and think I’d just hit puberty — that the really skinny photos of me from the year before were just a normal prepubescent body.”
Recently, Amelia also revealed that she felt like she could have died from her disorder.
She first opened up about her anorexia in spring of 2018.
