B.S. The reason the ignition key won’t turn is because the front wheels are under tension and the lock piston can’t release the steering wheel. Try turning the key by rocking the wheel from side to side.

Today the tow truck came to pick up the RAV. A closer look shows that the door is pushed where the bumpers hit. This is most noticeable when you look at the spare tire and the TO of the Toyota logo is separate from the car. I also noticed that my plastic door flew off on impact, bending my wheel cage plastic bracket. There is a noticeable gap between my left tail light and the body, while on the right the gap is much narrower.

Damage From Rear End
In terms of damage, you have a big problem on your hands. If the insurance is total, I will take the money and buy a new Rao. The door and back opening are probably not glazed. They need to readjust the hinges and the door. Back pain can go away. All of these can be fixed and beautified, but the problem is that even if it looks good when it rains, you can have problems like water leaks, snow build-up in your part of the world, and wind intrusion (wind noise). You may have problems with the door not closing or locking properly and hanging over time. The whole rear is at risk. This is just my opinion, decide for yourself what is best for you. Also, if it goes with your CarFax, that’s a big negative when selling. That’s why I ask them to throw it in their lap. Assuming it’s practically new, you should get 95% of the cost back.

Click to expand… While it may not look bad on the outside, your RAV may have suffered serious damage on the inside. Either way, make sure the physical labor alone is worth a lot of money (or not). A year ago last December, some anonymous driver (I have no idea) backed into my RAV in a parking lot and broke the left rear tail light assembly and partially crushed the panel underneath it. The bill to replace the tail light and repair the dashboard exceeded $2,000. Your auto body work bill will be more than that.
